Health Risks Of A Non-Ergonomic Environment

Can working in a non-ergonomic office be bad for your health? Yes, say some advocates of the ergonomic way of life. But, let’s face it; people have worked in traditional offices for years without risking their health and well being. Of course being smart about how you work can help increase your chances of staying safe and well.

The truth is that overly stressing any part of your body, albeit a set of muscles and tendons, your immune system or even your mental health can all be dangerous, and since ergonomics relies on bringing the physical, mental, emotional and technological beings together in better alignment and harmony it can only help create a healthier and more comfortable work environment.

Without an ergonomically designed workspace you could be setting yourself up for a myriad of physical ailments including:

  • Carpel tunnel syndrome – this can be avoided by using better aligned keyboards and other office tools
  • Tendonitis – finding a better fit in office equipment can help alleviate this painful disorder
  • Fatigue – something as simple as putting a glare filter on an annoying computer screen can ease eye strain and help alleviate mid-day fatigue
  • Chronic colds and flu – stress can lower the immune system. Ergonomics helps to find ways to lower physical and emotional stress by improving the way people view their job tasks and finding better (and easier) ways to accomplish them. Another way to avoid more physical ailments is to make your work environment more physically comfortable in terms of temperature. People who feel too cold or hot in the office may be more apt to suffer with the sniffles or worse on a regular basis. Regulating temperatures and the like can help alleviate these problems once and for all.
  • Mental health – psychological issues too can be avoided lowering stress levels, frustration and feelings of incompetence

So, now that you better understand the dangers of working in a non-ergonomic environment what can you do about? First, make sure the equipment and tools you use (computers, desks, chairs, etc), are comfortable to use. Be sure chairs and desks are at the right height to prevent neck and back strain; install extra lighting to stop eye strain; and use keyboards that are specially designed to prevent wrist and hand problems.

Next, make sure the outdoor environment is comfortable. Get rid of plants that may be causing allergy symptoms; lower or raise the temperature in your office or cubicle for the most comfort and add some soft music if that helps you relax more and concentrate better.

Finally, find ways to complete tasks in an easier manner. If you are having hand pain from folding newsletter and brochures, either enlist some help or try to talk your boss into buying a folding machine. You aren’t always going to be able to incorporate the best ergonomics ideas and designs into the workplace, but the key is to find as many as you can to make your work life easier and more comfortable.

Right Home Theater Seating Perfects Your Home Theater System

So, how can you turn your ordinary television room into a deluxe movie theater?

In putting together a home entertainment system, one must not forget the perfect home theater seating that would best go with everything you have set up. A home theater seating is the perfect way to enhance your home entertainment experience.

If you have completed your dream home movie theater system, the next thing to invest on is your home theater seating. There are several seating options that you can choose from for your sitting pleasure.

Home movie theater chairs can come in different colors and they are available in different upholstery options. Leather upholstered chairs are a popular choice but they could get expensive. Some chairs are designed with cup holders that can hold your drinks while you are enjoying quality time with your loved ones over a movie.

There are also rocker chairs that you can select. They are also available in individual purchases just like basic theater chairs. They may be made from woven fabrics or leather. Cup holders may be incorporated in a rocker chair’s armrest.

If you want that Cineplex look on your home movie theater, might as well choose a movie lounge chair. These chairs are designed to fit in your home. Most of these chairs are made of leather with wide arms. The arms may be styled straight or wedged and it is where the drink holders are installed. These chairs are great in providing comfort that will enhance your home movie theater experience.

Find the best seating for your own movie theater is really not that difficult because you can easily look them up online and choose the best deals there is. The great thing about these online stores is that it is hassle free and your purchased product gets to be delivered right at your front door in several days. If you think that assembling the home theater seats is a problem, it is actually not a problem since some online stores include a video instruction on how to assemble the product. It is definitely that simple and easy to create your dream theater right in the confines of your home.

What Are The Common Office Chair Problems And How To Fix Them

The eight hours (or more for workaholics) we need to spend inside the office is no small matter. That is why we have to give much attention and notice to the ones we spend those eight hours with. And yes, that includes your humble (or not, in some cases) office chair.

However, there are still people who view the workplace chair as lower than what they are really worth. Chances are these are the kind of people who walk into the office and cannot wait for the day to end. And a likely reason why they immediately want the day end is that they are uncomfortable with their seats. Ironic, isn’t it?

In order to make you (and your employees as well) work even more productively, you have to secure a comfortable place for them. You may already have done your part by securing not only comfortable but also ergonomically correct chairs for your office. However, what happens when we suddenly encounter problems with these chairs?

Do not fret or worry. Most of the problems workplace chairs have do not even need the attention of a professional. You don’t have to be an expert in fixing furniture or appliances to be able to fix of these problems, some of which are described in this article.

Your office chair stinks, I mean, sinks

If you have always owned an office chair, this is one of the most common, not to mention most frustrating, problem a workplace chair could possibly have. Office chairs usually sink because of two reasons. The first reason is when the pneumatic lift of the office chair becomes worn out. By then, it will not longer be able to carry weight. When this happens, you may need to replace the faulty lift in the chair from the supplier.

Another reason why chairs sink is when its height adjustment lever becomes damaged. Aside from being damaged, it may also come out of alignment. This happens when the gas lift is permanently set to release all the weight applied to it and so it forces the chair to sink.

To fix this problem, you have to see whether the height adjustment lever is misaligned. Turn the chair over, locate the said lever and try pressing it back into its normal position.

Your office chair shocks you and not in a good way

Getting static electricity shocks while sitting on your office chair is also one common situation. Experiencing it can range from unpleasant to painful. Sometimes, this problem results from another problem in the office chair’s upholstery, clothing and even from the office carpet, made even worse with your office’s air conditioning, which makes the said problem quite hard to resolve.

A possible solution to this problem if it happens frequently is to buy a portable humidifier. Moisture can help lessen static. If static persists, you can try gripping a metal portion of your workplace chair before you get up as it can ground the electrical charge.

Your office chair squeaks and it’s not cute

Children may like the squeaking sound of a chair but for an employee trying to do his job well, the persistent squeaking of his office chair may frustrate him, not helping at all to his work productivity. A squeaking office chair is usually a result of either of these two reasons. First, the squeaking sound may be because there is constant friction between two metal parts. Usually, this metal to metal contact happen where the back is attached to the seat. Another cause for squeaking are the loose fixings that secure the back to the seat.

To resolve the annoying problem of squeaks, expose the office chair’s moving parts and coat them with a special spray which reduces friction and provides lubrication to improve motion. You can also try tightening all the fixings up.

Either it reclines or does not recline!

This is another common problem of workplace chairs which brings upon more frustration to its user. When there is something wrong with the way your office chair reclines, it removes your attention from the work you should be doing and you tend to focus on how to sit more comfortably on such a chair.

When your chair does not recline anymore, a very likely cause is that the back of the chair has been set to a locked position, as most models come with this function. To release it from the locked position, move the control levers which re located on the underside of the chair.

On the other hand, if your office chair can’t seem to stop from reclining, there might be two root causes. First, the back of the chair might have been locked at a full recline position. To resolve this, do the same procedure with the control levers. Another reason for this is faulty mechanism, wherein the chair has very little or no resistance. Look for a round knob which is located under the seat. Turn this clockwise which will increase the tension of the back.

How to Find Fairies, Cowboys and Great Music in August Around Loire Atlantique

We started the ball rolling with a trip to see the wonderful sound and light show put on every year in August at Martigne-Ferchaud. Etincelles Aquatiques is a truly spectacular show put on over 3 nights by the local people based loosely on the many Breton myths and legends, fairies and imps and inspired by the abundance of La Roche aux Fées (The fairy rock). The venue is in a natural amphitheater surrounding a lake, tickets can be bought on arrival or in advance and as the seating is on wooden benches a good supply of cushions is a must. Even arriving a couple of hours before the show to get good seats is not boring as the atmosphere is so wonderful, galette, crepe, and coffee sales people work their way through the rows of people with chips, sausages and other cold drinks available from stalls nearby.

The show starts at sunset and lasts 1 hour 30 mins so it's also worth bringing warm clothes or a blanket as the night can be chilly. Every year something new is added to make this an event worth coming back to. The cast ranges in age from 6 upwards and numbers around 260 with 900 local volunteers helping out behind the scenes. With wonderful music, special effects and spectacular fireworks the show is a magical experience for all ages.

Next on our schedule was the annual Wild West festival in Bain-de-Bretagne held over 3 days in August, West Country has entertainment for all the family. A large market selling all things western from hats & boots to full Indian regalia, a rodeo, Indian village with very authentic looking (French) Indians, line dancing for all abilities, and new for this year were a bird of prey show, log filing and chainsaw sculpture and hot air ballooning. There are also concerts held in the evenings into the early hours. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the weather was just a bit too hot for comfort while we sat watching the Rodeo. We did not know that the show was in 2 parts and when the admission was announced we decided to start for home and it was not until I heard the show re-commmence in the distance that we realized it was not over but by that time we were too hot and tired to trudge back. Still we did see some great horsemanship, rounding up skills, quite annoyed bulls trying to ditch their riders and bucking broncos. We were very impressed with the dedication of those taking part in making the whole thing as authentic as is possible in the wilds of France rather than the West, the costumes, tipees, skills and atmosphere were brilliant. The Indians even sporting mohawks on their heads which must be quite difficult to live with when out of costume in every day French life.

The free music festival Rendez Vous Sur l'Erdre is held every year over the last weekend of August. All along the river from 'Motte Rouge' to '50 Otages' on the tramway route in Nantes, groups vie with each other for noise supremacy. It was an exciting, vibrant and thoroughly enjoyable experience as always (3rd year for me). Each venue hosts a different style of music from trad jazz to head bangers with just enough distance between them to enjoy your favorite without the others intruding. Also along the river in swathes were food stalls selling everything from the usual moules frates and gallettes to exotic Afro-Caribbean, Chinese, Indian, Arabic and African dishes. A great opportunity to try something new. Interspersed between music venues and food outlets were street entertainers and traditional seafaring craft exhibitions. Truly a great day out for all the family, made even more so by the good donated demeanour of the crowds; no drunken yobs, pushing and shoving teen brats or other anti social behavior spoiled the atmosphere.

I must go again next year but I'll do a little research first to see who is playing and where, as going blind as I have till now, mean more often than not arriving at interesting sounding gigs just as they play their last notes.

Review of MotionCraft – Functional Motion Furniture

MotionCraft manufactures a selection of high-quality motion furniture at its Plant in North Carolina. MotionCraft is a division of Sherrill furniture, and offers some of the best-looking motion furniture in the country. 100% made in America, this company offers recliners, comfort tilt chairs with regular, storage and sleeper ottomans, home theater leather recliners, and sleeper loveseats and sofas.

Most furniture manufacturers will offer a recliner in their range, but none can match the MotionCraft motion furniture for quality and ease of operation. Not only do they look good, but they do not look like recliners. They look just like regular living room furniture. Not only that, but the company also offers a range of sectionals and the ability for you to custom design your own motion furniture.

MotionCraft Recliner Range

You can choose from four different types of recliners or tilt chairs. The regular recliner, like the entire range is available in 41 different styles, some of them offering a motorized option. They are available in a range of leather and fabric upholstery. These recliners offer a TV viewing recline or a full almost flat out recline.

The Wall Hugger chairs provide a footrest for TV viewing or a full recline for maximum comfort. There are nine designs available, each with a motorized and swivel glider option. The range also includes a lift assist options for the elderly and infirm that find it difficult to sit down and stand up unassisted. These too are available in leather and fabric finishes.

There are also two Zero Wall recliners with motorized options which can be set hard up against a wall without interfering with the reclining functionality. Finally, the two gorgeous Comfort Tilt chairs offers partial and full recline, along with a matching ottoman with the option of a storage ottoman. All of these reclining models display the fabulous craftsmanship of MotionCraft and its very easy reclining action.

Sleep Sofas and Loveseats

There are two sleepers in the Sweet Dreams 8000 range, including a 72 inch wide full sleeper sofa and queen sleep sofas at 80 and 86 inch widths. There is also a chair-and-a-half twin sleeper and a storage ottoman for the bedding. There is a selection of sleep sofas and loveseats outside the Sweet Dreams range that range from 65 to 86 inches wide.

MotionCraft also offers you a choice of incline sofas and motorized recliner sofas for your comfort with a simple operating mechanism. Every one of these items of furniture will look good in any room, and there are sufficient upholstery options to suit any type of décor.

Sectionals and Multiples

You have a wide range of sectionals that will enable you to mix and match your motion furniture to fit any room configuration. With right and left and arms, armless sofas and wedges, you can arrange these in just about formation you wish.

Design Your Own

Design your own sectionals from a whole host of individual pieces, including 24 armed and armless options with various motion types (incliner, recliner, motor recliner, swivel glider, twin, full and queen sleeper), corner armless chairs and wedges at 65, 78 and 81 degrees.

You can also choose from 5 arm styles, 2 back cushions, 3 base options and a range of upholstery fabrics and leather. There is a storage ottoman available to match your choices. MotionCraft really does offer the very best facility to enable you to design a sectional motion arrangement to meet any need at all.

Conclusions

These pieces look as good as they sound, and it is very difficult, if not impossible, to find fault. Perhaps the only criticism could be the apparent lack of a lift chair in the sectional options. In fact, there appears to be only one lift chair in the entire range. However, no doubt the company will be able to resolve that omission very easily if asked.

Not only does MotionCraft offer a very wide selection of motion furniture, but it all looks great and feels absolutely solid. This is high quality stuff that you really have to see to appreciate. It is very easy to operate so if you have arthritis in your hands don’t worry. This is for you: top of the range products at middle of the range prices.
