Futon Beds are now very popular in western countries. However, these beds originated in Japan many years ago. There are certain differences between the western futon beds and the Japanese counterpart. The Japanese futons normally consist of two parts. The first part is the bottom mattress called the “Shikibuton” and the second part consists of the “Kakebuton” – which is a thick bed cover or mattress.

Western styled futon beds have now been adapted to meet western needs. Here, when someone mentions about a futon, the picture that usually comes to mind is that of a Futon Sofa Bed. This bed is a handy and versatile piece of furniture that can be used as a couch as well as a bed. Futon beds can be used almost anywhere in the home such as the living room or the bedroom. A Futon sofa bed is also an ideal sleeping arrangement for friends or families who could drop in unexpectedly.

Since it is easy to fold this kind of bed, you can easily move it around from room to room without much effort. These can be tri-fold or bi-fold depending upon your needs. Love seat futons are also available if your prefer them. Futons are just perfect for places, which are smaller and cannot accommodate full sized beds. Places like dormitories, smaller apartments, or other smaller areas of the home are the right place for these beds.

There are many advantages of going in for a futon sofa bed. These beds are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased for a lot lesser than other beds considering the utility and comfort offered. While not in use, these beds can double up as a sofa as well. These beds save a lot of space in the house and you can convert it into a sofa or make it a bed again whenever you like. A cheaper bed could cost you about 100 dollars or slightly more, but an expensive one could be hundreds of dollars. The cheaper ones tend to be less comfortable than the more expensive ones, so it is advisable to buy a slightly costlier one if you want more comfort.

Before you buy a futon bed, you should clarify whether you are in need of a regular bed instead. These beds are not meant to take over the role of regular beds; nevertheless, they are a great addition to regular bedroom and living room furniture for a casual nap or for friends or guests who could drop in overnight. That does not mean that these beds are not built at all to be uncomfortable. There are comfortable futon beds available as well, so it depends upon you which one you really want that meets your needs.
